In Your Face…With Courage

Have you faced a challenge lately? Maybe at home or at work? Perhaps you struggle with something? Listen to what God tells us about being courageous when we face challenges. “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7. God reminds us of the importance of taking hold of any situation. Sin finds a way of surfacing in our lives. We all face the challenge of doing better when we deal with it. “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24. God tells us to lean on Him for the strength we need. He tells us to follow the instructions given in the Bible. He tells us to tell our burdens and listen to Him when we pray. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:10.
Too often we may find ourselves backing down from a challenge. Self-doubt and negative feelings creep in. Sentiments of “I can’t” and “I am not able” make us feel defeated even before we begin! Our problem may be something we did or said that we know is wrong. We may be wrongly accused or be the victim of false gossip or even lies. We may have to stand up to someone on a moral or personal issue. Listen to what God says about this: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7. Yes—God tells us that we have all we need if we follow His guide. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. Remember that God does not guarantee success with every obstacle. God wants us to look to Him for help in all we do and sometimes that help will mean not getting our way. God demands faithfulness and trust in Him. Our goals should center not on our own desires, but on what God wants and gives to us; he knows best for our lives. “Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” 1 Chronicles 22:13.
Remember that following Him means sacrificing and there will be many challenges as we continue along His path for our lives. “Eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.” Philippians 1:20. Be ready to face the obstacles of sin and the problems of this world. Plenty of challenges, problems and issues will be in your face. But God will be with us and help us to face those challenges. Be courageous!
