Memorize List

Below is the list that we are going to get memorized by the end of the year (for confirmation class). Every Christian could use to have these memorized. Not only are we memorizing our beliefs, ethics, and main prayer, but we are memorizing a couple arguments for God’s existence. At our conclusion of both our first and second year classes it is my hope that all students know WHAT they believe and WHY they believe it.

Apostles Creed (our beliefs)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth,

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From there, He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

 the forgiveness of sins,

 the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting

Ten Commandments (our ethics)

  1. You shall have no other gods before me
  2. You shall not make for yourself an idol.
  3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
  5. Honor your father and mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.

The Lord’s Prayer (our prayer)

Our Father who are in heaven,

Hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our debts

As we have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil,

For yours is the kingdom

And the power

And the glory

Forever and ever.

How do we know God exists?

Cosmological Argument

  1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
  2. The universe began to exist.
  3. Therefore the universe has a cause

Conclusion: This cause we call God.

What could cause the universe? A being that is spiritual, timeless, personal, and really powerful could cause the universe, and that is exactly the God Christians believe in.

Moral Argument

  1. If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist.
  2. Objective moral values and duties do exist.
  3. Therefore, God exists.
